Around town, the engine’s turbocharger provides a decent amount of low-end punch, but as soon as you need to pass or merge on the highway, the engine runs out of steam. The turbocharged 1.4-liter inline-four makes 138 hp, a low number for this segment, and it’s buzzy and unrefined. Only one engine is offered in the Trax, and it’s not a great one. Three new colors are available: Storm Blue Metallic, Sandy Ridge Metallic, and the extra-cost Cajun Red Tintcoat. The Premier trim now comes standard with forward-collision and lane-departure warnings and gains a sunroof. What's New for 2018?Ĭhevrolet has given the Trax some visual punch for 2018 by introducing the Redline Edition appearance package, which adds black exterior trim, black 18-inch wheels with red stripes, and black leatherette-and-cloth seating surfaces. A long list of standard equipment, which includes touchscreen infotainment and onboard Wi-Fi, is the Trax’s saving grace and represents much of its appeal. ![]() ![]() If needs be, as a non-programmer I would spend time learning the communication relationship between the Arduino board and an edit text parser style interface, because I have the need to undertake projects that would value the efficiency dividend provided by the Firmata integration. However it comes to pass, access to the board elements in a simplified but clearly articulated integration that works is going to be the bottom line. I guess this represents some kind of 'wizard' interface that would allow the display and modification of properties and parameters associated with the board identified with a serial port. ![]() With addition of specifying in and out link ports on the actor itself. I don't think there is any example within the native Isadora actors. Examples of that kind of control interface can be found in the AU audio actors. Personally I would like to have the extended properties and parameters associated with the integration presented as a dialog interface when double clicking on the actor. Is this correct? or does the integration suggest that active pins on the board would be auto detected and PIN lines auto generated? The Arduino Firmata actor would expand dependent on how many PIN lines are articulated within an edit text parser pop out. I have plans for more ambitious projects for festivals in the August/September season this year, so the potential of what I understand from reading up about the Firmata protocol over the last couple of days has some appeal.įrom what I interpret from the Firmata Actor Help document that has been provided, the Arduino Firmata actor will be somewhat similar to the existing Serial In Watcher and Send Serial Data group of actors but within a single actor integration. For more elaborate projects I have worked with experienced programmers to create Isadora based communications using OSC and wireless boards. For the Arduino sketches I have relied on modification of sketch code provided through Arduino forums etc. I have Uno and Micro boards that have been integrated into the Isadora workflow with simple sketches, things like triggering relays on/off, hacking remote controller to turn appliances on/off and simple sensor input like pulse sensor and accelerometers etc. But I can also see that by auto populating the actor, it would be easier for the non-programmer.īest have not used the Firmata protocol before but have managed a few simple projects using Arduino boards. If you changed the function from output to input, you'd need to move the actual value from the input side of the actor to the output side. ![]() That means 34 inputs on the actor given the list shown above. If you were to auto-populate the actor, a way similar to the app shown above, there would be two inputs for each pin: the function and the value. If you were to show every pin on the board in the actor, you'd get a long list that would look a little bit like the Firmata test app shown below. So, it can be either a digital input or an output, which means the Isadora actor would have a corresponding output property or an input property. Pin 2: digital input digital output servo input_pullup For example, PIN 2 on my board offers all these capabilities: I see what you're saying, but the issue is that the "capabilities" information offers all the capabilities of the board - that doesn't indicate what you want to do. Otherwise as a programmer, this solution also seems quite straightforward. Especially since this is an "Arduino for Non-Programmers"-actor. that way everything is selectable through options. with the response you could populate the inputs and outputs of the actor. If you would add an active flag, you can have the actor send a BoardCapabilities Request when enabling. First off: is this necessary? I know Firmata can do a board capabilities request (sysex 0圆B, i believe). He did not post them in this said: I have been looking at the instructions. One aspect many filmmakers neglect when putting together a budget is the amount of time and resources they’ll need for post-production and editing. As you will see in the following sections, both post-production and marketing deserve just as much attention and funding. For instance, if you’re really on a shoestring budget, you might be able to get a local catering company to sponsor your film, ultimately bringing down your food line item.ĭuring production, it’s wise to keep a “miscellaneous fund” or a contingency of money that isn’t accounted for in case you incur unforeseen expenses such as repairing equipment that breaks or renting additional gear to help you get the most out of your shots.Īs I mentioned earlier, the majority of film budgets are spent during production (not including huge blockbusters that spend the most on marketing), but regardless I typically recommend designating about 35% of your budget to shoot your film. Other line items such as catering, lodging (if necessary), transportation costs for cast and crew, and makeup are also significant considerations, but some of these can be mitigated by thinking outside of the box. are all items that necessarily will need to eat into your budget. Big ticket items such as paying your cast and crew, location permits, gear rentals (including the camera, lenses, filters, rigs, tripods, and extra batteries), insurance, etc. Production Image via Lewis McGregor.įor films of any scale, production is often where the most money is spent, simply because there are more unavoidable costs during this stage. Theoretically, pre-production should be the easiest to predict in terms of cost, and if you’re shooting a low or micro-budget film, this stage will likely be the cheapest of the four components of your budget (no more than 10%). In this stage, your budget will account for location scouting, insurance, office expenses, courier services, script fees, casting director rate, and just about anything else you need to pay for before getting to set. Pre-production is comprised of all the items you must address in the beginning phases of your production up until the day you go to shoot your film. The percentage calculations are interpreted from a low-budget film basis that is likely to be published online and to go through the festival circuit. Understanding your needs ahead of time for each of these essential components of the filmmaking process will keep you organized and ultimately make your life that much easier. To begin the budgeting process, I recommend breaking things down into the four following major categories, all of which are standard to just about any film budget: ![]() Calculate Your Budget – Image by Supawat Bursuk This is to say, some budgets can be pretty simple if it’s just one video professional shooting one video however if it’s a whole team with lots of different departments shooting a huge video or one with several different versions, it can be quite complex. The bigger the project in terms of scope and time, the bigger the budget for items and deliverables. What is a film budget, and how does one work? Well, as you might expect, a budget for a film or video project works like a budget for any other endeavor.įrom building a house to doing any other contract work, a budget is used to itemize and list all the different tasks needed to be done while also providing an hourly (or day) rate with an estimation of how many of these units will need to be completed. So first and foremost, let’s go over some basic definitions and principles. So let’s do our diligence today to outline everything you need to consider for putting together a budget for your project, as well as provide some helpful examples and templates to send you on your way. If you’ve picked up a part-time job and have saved a few thousand dollars to produce your short film, this is just as important for you too.įor example: How much do you need to set aside for star talent (if any)? What elements can you, or need to, barter for if the budget is very low? Is it better to rent or buy gear? What can you get for free? What are the largest unavoidable expenses? A properly constructed budget will allow you to look critically at all of your departments, which in turn provides you with much-needed clarity on critical decisions that need to be made throughout the process. No matter what your budget is, there is always one constant: creating a budget for your film should surely guarantee that every dollar will be spent wisely. Let’s take a hard look at some steps, tips, and tricks for building a solid budget for your short film or video project. ![]() That is all fine-but does it really work?
