I played BG:EE a bit and it seemed okay, so I'm hoping this will work out. In recent times, Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, and Icewind Dale have all had Enhanced Edition rereleases that add a bit of stuff and make the UI better and the game playable on a modern computer. While other games using this engine (Baldur's Gate 1&2, Planescape Torment) had very strong story components, Icewind Dale feels more like a pickup D&D game where you just get together to clear out some dungeons, thwart a villain, and not have to worry about anyone's character arc. All the standard D&Disms are there clearing out dungeons to finish quests to get loot and xp to level up. Gameplay is straightforward, and mostly involves moving your characters around a map and having them attack or cast spells at enemies. math is handled by the computer because I do not want to try to remember how THAC0 worked. The game is real-time, but you can pause whenever you want to give your characters new orders and whatnot. The game is about taking your party of 1-6 adventurers through their various quests, and is mostly combat with some basic dialogue tree stuff.
